AW10 Collaborators - Part One - Azumi & David (A'N'D)
2010-03-31 10:04:41
Azumi and David (A'N'D)
Azumi and David both studied fashion at Central Saint Martins, London but met in The Troubadour Coffee House, in London's Earl's Court in May 1995. They got married in Hackney Town Hall, London on March 10th, 2000 and had their wedding reception on October 14th, 2001 in Nagano, Japan. They celebrate birthdays on the 8th and 10th April, designating April 9th as A'N'D day.
Since first coming together in 1995, Azumi and David have progressed through a variety of creative projects - initially with limited edition artist's books and performance art, moving gradually on to fashion and accessory associated 'things to wear'.
Azumi and David presented their first fashion accessories ('piercing' and 'ear wax' - foam and wax earplug earrings), branded A'N'D, to The Pineal Eye, London in April 1999 ... followed by Colette, Paris in September 1999 ... their first two stockists. They have shown their new collections of 'things to wear' twice a year in a Paris showroom every year since 2003...
Their 'things to wear' are stocked around the world in over 40 stores, in cities such as London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Milan etc...

Kay met them through a Make-up Artist friend Natsumi a few years back at their showroom in Paris, and came back telling me how nice they were and how crazy their 'things to wear' are... The first design product I saw of theirs is the iconic 'SHOE BAG' and my jaw-dropped (literally). I think they are definitely one of the funniest and coolest brand around who is having as much fun as they like season after season... I can never hide my smile when I see their products...
I recall having met them through Kay (Duh!) in Paris (Duh!) during Fashion Week (Duh!) and we went for Dinner (Wow how unexpectable). I did quick sketches of them during the meal and gave them as Birthday and Wedding Anniversary Presents coz it so happened to be really close to those special dates!!
And having become a Fan & Friend, I'm now using their Shoe Bag and Foreign/Domestic Wallet with 2 sides for travelliing.
They have collaborated with us on our AW10 collection on a special T-shirt print, and it will be disclosed to you guys very soon...... :p

Kings of Convenience in HK - behind the scene
2010-03-31 08:36:37

Imagine John Lennon sitting next to you chatting about guitar and music, and you are almost feeling what I was feeling last night when I was backstage waiting to open the gig for Kings of Convenience.
Kings of Convenience's music has entered me and Kay's lives since 7, 8 years ago when we were still studying in London, and we have fell in love with them ever since... Every time we go to trade shows we play 'Quiet is the New Loud' or 'Riot on an empty Street' on our Mac as the background music. We even used the song 'Homesick' as the music for one of our video presentations of our collection to buyers! So you can imagine how excited I was when I found out I could open their gig in Hong Kong!!
The most surreal scene happened when I was practising my songs in my dressing room; Eirek(of KOC) wandered in in search of the Bossa Nova guitar rhythm... he ended up sitting on the chair beside me! He was interested enough to ask me play one more, but I was obviously nervous as I was playing the song so much quicker than usual! The coolest bit was when exchanged our favourite chords!! I told him i previously loved the Major 7 and 9 chords, but have recently got really into the 6 chord... it just seems so unreal... even now it felt like a dream.
I wish I get to talk to Erelend Oye too, but he was occupied, and was too tired after the show... but this evening has already become a highlight of my life so far!!

I wasn't there at the New York Rendesvous Show because I was staying in Hong Kong recording my album, but Kay went and told me the space was amazing and that it was lively! Look at the space, it's big! I don't mind having my room like that actually... anyway, I hope I'll see this space next season!
